Brewery Tour – May 3, 2018

To welcome conference attendees to Colorado Springs this tour showcases some of the cities finest micro breweries in the Colorado Springs area. We will visit Triple S Brewing and 3 other local microbreweries. Ticket holders will receive a pint or a flight of beer at each brewery, a talk from the brewers about what they do – and how what they do is different from everyone else. If time permits a behind the scenes tour may also be possible. The tour will finish at Triple S Brewing where ticket holders will receive some branded merchandise. Please note that also included in the price is a 25% tip for the serving staff at the breweries visited – so all you need to do is enjoy!


Paint Mines Interpretive Park Hike – May 4, 2018

Sign up for a sunrise experience at the Paint Mines Interpretive Park in Calhan, CO. You will receive transport to and from the site and the opportunity to explore and photograph this stunning landscape as the sun rises for yet another beautiful Colorado day. Additionally you will receive information from our tour leader – historian and fellow 99’s member Ms. Kim Sweetwood, on the 9,000 year history of the site and how it was used by the Native American population. The clay area can be reached easily, suitable walking shoes are recommended. Furthermore there are 4 miles of walking / hiking trails for anyone who is keen for a morning walk.


USAF Academy Tour – May 4, 2018

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be an Air Force Cadet, see how things have changed since you completed training, or reminisce on old memories then the tour of the USAF Academy Cadet Chapel and surrounding area may be just what you are looking for to fill your Friday morning. This option includes transport to and from the Academy, access to the Cadet Chapel, Arnold Hall, and the Honor Court. A guided tour of the Chapel will commence at 10:00 am.


Garden of the Gods – May 4, 2018

Sign up to enjoy a guided tour of the Garden of the Gods, the most visited tourist attraction in the area and Natural National Landmark. You will be collected from the conference venue and transported to the Visitor Center where you can learn about how this amazing geological formation came to be with the NEW Geo-Trekker theater experience, showing every 20 minutes. You will also have the option to browse the gift shop or grab that second cup of coffee from the cafe. Following this a park docent will then board the bus and provide information on the various formations and features of the park throughout a driving tour. Along the way there will be opportunity to stop and take photos as the docent guides you to the most picturesque locations along the route. If a driving tour does not appeal to you, you may of course wander the park on foot – just be sure to return for pickup!


Manitou Springs – May 4, 2018

After lunch, as the Board of Directors and Chapter Chairs meet, why not be transported to the historic city of Manitou Springs to sample the naturally carbonated water from various fountains along the main street or indulge in some shopping at art galleries, souvenir stalls, or delicious ice cream and candy shops. There are also a number of other attractions in the area including the Cave of the Winds, the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Rainbow Falls, and the Cog Railway (Please note this tour does not give you access to any of these, and if you wish to ascend Pikes Peak we recommend booking in advance directly with the Cog Railway). At the conclusion of this activity the bus will collect you from a central location and have you back to the conference venue with enough time to refresh prior to the evenings Welcome Reception.


Old Colorado City – May 4, 2018

After lunch, as the Board of Directors and Chapter Chairs meet, why not be transported to historic Old Colorado City, which used to be the Capitol of the State and served as a provisioning town for mining expeditions into the Rocky Mountains. Now you can discover a bit of history for yourself by downloading the Old Colorado City Walking Tour app to your phone and exploring at your leisure. If history is not your thing then you may be pleased to know that there are over 15 art galleries in the area, each showcasing their unique style. Furthermore there are plenty of other shopping and dining options. At the conclusion of this activity the bus will collect you from a central location and have you back to the conference venue with enough time to refresh prior to the evenings Welcome Reception.


Helen Hunt Falls Hike – May 5, 2018

For those of you who are early risers a short tour to the Helen Hunt Falls may be just what you need to start your morning off right. Located in the North Cheyenne CaƱon Park participants can enjoy the falls from the base near the car park, take a short (approx. 0.2 mile) walk to the top of the falls, or continue on to the Silver Cascade Falls a little further up the trail. Conditions may be slippery at this time of year, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. This tour will return you to the conference venue with time to refresh and breakfast before the Business Meeting commences at 8:00am.

WWII Aviation Museum and Westpac Restoration – May 5, 2018

The National Museum of World War II Aviation is located in Colorado Springs and will provide unique experiences that demonstrate the historical importance of American aviation in World War II and its role in shaping the world. This option includes transportation to and from the museum, entry to the museum and restoration facility, and a 1 hour 45 min docent lead group tour. The museum has many restored war birds on display and participants will have the opportunity to look around at their leisure prior to departing back to the conference venue.
